I've heard rumors you are going to Bayern Munich. What are your thoughts on them and that move?

Answer:

That's one of the best teams in the world, but as of now, I've got to worry about what's going on here. If January rolls around and there's interest, and the league is willing to discuss it, I would be excited to talk about it

Was Bruce Arena the right choice for the Galaxy?

Answer:

In my opinion, Bruce is the right choice. This organization has been searching for a vision, and I think Bruce will give us that. People shouldn't expect miracles overnight. While in the short term hiring Bruce is going to benefit us, the long term effects of having him lead the organization will be even greater. I also want to thank Cobi Jones for his professionalism in a difficult time, and for bringing stability to a difficult situation.

Question:

How will Bruce Arena step in and do what Ruud couldnt?

Answer:

Bruce can run and manage things. He can manage players, staff, coaches. He so good with people in that way, kind of like a good CEO at a company. He can do all those things very well and that's kind of what we need: the leader, someone who takes charge and is accountable and can help direct people in different directions. He's always been very good at that. And of course, he's also an excellent coach.

Question:

Why do you think it didnt work with Ruud in LA?

Answer:

I think to be fair to Ruud, he was starting to figure out what he needed to do. It was just difficult because for a long time you got the sense Ruud wasn't completely there and wasn't invested in it. I don't judge him for it, because what he's used to is he picks the game, helps run training, and everything else just falls into place, especially at a big club.Here in MLS, its not that easy, because there are so many issues to deal with.

Question:

A lot of people are saying that you won't reach your full potential until you play in a harder league than MLS. What do you have to say about that?

Answer:

That is a fair statement. Clearly leagues in the rest of the world are more advanced and have a longer history than MLS, and that is a fair comment. You are probably right.

Landon begins training with Bayern Munich

Landon Donovan arrived in Dubai yesterday, where Bayern Munich is holding its midseason training camp, to begin training with the club for his 75-day loan. Landon was very excited to join the club, and finally begin training.

“I’m pleased and very excited to be here,” Landon told Bayern’s official website. “My goal is to become part of the team as quickly as possible. I’m confident it’ll work out. It was made very easy for me here at Bayern back in November. I was welcomed with open arms.“

He also expressed his excitement about playing alongside some of the best forwards in football, joining Luca Toni, Miroslav Klose, and Lukas Podolski on the front lines.

Landon Donovan Wins Honda Player of the Year

Landon Donovan made history by winning the 2008 Honda Player of the Year Award, thus becoming the only five time winner of the most coveted prize in U.S. Soccer.

For the last 18 years, the award has honored the best player on the U.S. National Soccer Team as chosen by the American sports media. This recognition coincides with the start of Donovan’s training with Bayern Munich in Germany. Donovan previously won the award in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2007.

Landon spoke after receiving the award and said, “I appreciate this honor. It is very special to me. This year has been by far my best year as a professional and I’m proud of that. It’s nice to be honored…

Landon trains with Bayern Munich

After a sucessful campaign with the Los Angeles Galaxy in which Landon won the golden boot award for most goals scored during the MLS season, he has been given the opportunity to train with Bayern Munich of the Bundesliga. Landon will be training in Germany for the next 10 days.

The coach of Bayern Munich, Jürgen Klinsmann, has spent time with Landon in the past and believes he will fit right in during his trial with his team.

“I know Landon from my time with LA Galaxy. He is a fine lad, a very good footballer and a great personality in US soccer.”

Landon is excited to be in Germany again after playing there from 2001-2005 for Bayer Leverkusen.
